Agniputr - Book reviewed

Agniputr-When Agni first spokeAgniputr-When Agni first spoke by Vadhan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received an author autographed copy for review.
Am not very fond of sci fi books or movies hence was a bit sceptical when I started reading it. But surprisingly I started enjoying it as I went on reading it. It was one of the first of its kind by an Indian author as far as I know.
All characters are super heroes so in the climax it is a war between super heroes. Despite there being a protagonist his role is diluted by the villain who reigns in the book.
It is an out and out fantasy and since am not a science student am not sure whether the scientific parts in the book are facts or fiction made to sound credible. For me it was all fantasy.
I wish the characters were a bit more fleshed out and the plot woven a bit more tightly. There were times when I got the feeling that the author was aimlessly rambling.
The typos and grammatical errors too, though not too many, were like speed breakers for me.
Overall, if a little more effort had gone into editing, would have been a much more enjoyable experience.

Common mistake, self-publishing has become so easy now and there is a tendency to think editing and such can be bypassed! YAM xx

  3. Sometimes, reviewers think they're being uber-cool by saying bad things about good books. I read Agniputr by Vadhan and found it riveting. Its so totally different. Not only me, the book's got good reviews from national newspapers. Its a different thing if you didn't understand the book. Give readers the freedom to choose, give accurate reviews!

  4. I find it strange that a reiew can find mistakes in a book, raise doubts about sientific facts and the author is supposedly rambling can still be given a 4star rating. Does the fact that an autographed copy was recieved for review influence the rating? Incidentally I bought the book and read it I found it intriguing and refreshing. maybe the fact that it was paid for enabled me to enjoy the plot enough to read the author's first book Shatru also. I, in all honesty. would say the book is worth the money spent on it. In my limited capacity as a critic I would unhesitatingly recommend the book. This is without malice towards the critic.
