Book review - The forgotten ones

The Forgotten Ones (The Danaan Trilogy, #1)The Forgotten Ones by Laura Howard
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A well written book but not a genre that I like to read. It is about an Irish myth where there are characters (Danaan) with magical powers and live in a place where the concept of time is different from what we know.
It narrates a tale of a girl who has a mother in the thrall of the Danaan hence behaves very strangely. In her quest to treat her, the protagonist goes on an adventure into the world of Danaan. The ending is not revealed as this is the 1st part of a trilogy. :) So, to find out buy the next book.
I got this book (kindle version) free in exchange for a review and since it is not a genre that I enjoy, will not buy the other two.
This book though is well written and a foray into fantasy land where anything goes. So if this is something you like, go for it!

Short lives: Growing up to Die - Book review

Short Lives: Growing Up to DieShort Lives: Growing Up to Die by Braja Sorensen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It is believed that just before one dies accidentally, one's whole life flashes through the mind's eye, as a built in survival mechanism to check if one has been in a similar situation before and see how it was tackled.
This book is a similar account of a woman who has been told that she just has a couple of months to live. The book is filled with memories jotted like bullet points right from her childhood to the present moment. The narrative is crisp and light. Good to read. Will also give you an insight into what it was like growing up in Australia in the 70s.
A perfect book if you are commuting and have nothing else to do. Just 56 pages!

I got it as a free download from Amazon.in.

I enjoyed the read.

Book review of 'My Gita'

My GitaMy Gita by Devdutt Pattanaik
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

An Amazing read!
Devdutt Pattanaik lays it out in simple terms the meaning of Dharma, Adharma, Karma and many other concepts that are used so loosely these days. In this book he also talks abiut the Ramayana and Mahabharat and the protagonists therein.
One can comprehend the history of Hinduism through the years, before it became an ism. The best part is he does not use jargon nor high falutin' words to express himself. This is a must read for anyone who wishes to understand the concept of rebirth, soul, life and death.
Quote 'The earliest word for God in the Rig Veda is 'ka', which is the first alphabet in Sanskrit, from which come all the interrogative pronouns such as what, when, where, why and how. Thus divinity had something to do with enquiry' Unquote.
It is a mind expanding book!

I bought the Kindle edition of the book from Amazon.in
