Bali Farm Adventures - Book review

Bali Farm AdventuresBali Farm Adventures by Vichitraa
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I had never reviewed a book written for children and when I received a request to do so I did hesitate a bit but then jumped at the offer. When I received the book by courier I was expecting a fat book but this turned out to be a thin one, just abour 40 pages.
With great trepidation I opened the book to start reading. I was indeed surprised to note that the paper used for the book is thick and rightly so as the children are not going to be gentle with it while reading, the font is large enough for a child to read and the overall size of the book too is just right for a child to hold and read like an adult. Much thought must have gone into the overall production of the book.
The book is rated for the age group of 5 to 7 year olds. It is about the life of a child growing up on a farm and based on true life experiences of the author who grew up on a farm in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, India. These experiences would be an eye opener for the children living in big cities and give them an insight into the world of animals and birds and bees and take them momentarily into the natural world.
It has 6 short tales, beautifully illustrated, that can be highly entertaining and educating to the children. Will be fun if they have grown up listenening to 'Old McDonald had a farm' nursery rhyme.
A must read specially for the urban children to gain an insight into the wondrous life on a farm.
