Love - An endless mystery

Karen and Vijay were on the edge. Their minds had blanked out.
Arguments were futile now. The ups and downs had taken their toll.
Love was a speck on the distant horizon as the sun set on their relationship.
Minds aside, they got together for the final act and set the stage on fire!

To serve or be served..

Our members of Parliament want their salaries to be increased to Rs.80,000/- pm. It is their contention that their present salaries are inadequate for a decent living and are miserable compared to the private sector. In any other organisation these grievances would be put to the management who would then take necessary steps to resolve them. However, in this case these Parliamentarians would introduce the bill in the Parliament and if it is passed by a majority, it would be effected!
It is not as if they were not aware of their salaries when they ‘asked’ to be elected to the job. They came begging for it. If they do not like the salary, they are free to quit as there are plenty more who would be willing to come forward to fill in those vacancies. It should be considered an honour to be elected as a Member of Parliament to serve the country and its people. The allowances and other perks that a Member of Parliament gets is more than enough to ensure that he can fulfil his duties honourably.
So will all the Members of Parliament who are not satisfied with their present salaries please put in their papers and let others who are more than willing to step in? We do not want disgruntled MPs as they would not be committed to their job at hand and would be always putting their own interests ahead and not those of the country.
Are they there to serve or to be served?

A tale of two sports..

12May2010 will be a memorable day in the annals of Indian sports.

Thanks to a tale of two sports - cricket and chess.

After being beaten out of the T20 cricket world cup, Dhoni ‘s reference to the Indian Premiere League (IPL) was ‘ players need to manage their time better between playing, attending parties and travelling.’ This thought has come a bit too late. Had it not occurred to the Indian team management earlier? Or is this like all other things in India. An attitude problem – ‘Let it happen and then we shall attend to it.’
We wait for accidents to happen, lives to be lost and then take necessary measures instead of pre-empting. It is always too little too late.

Thank Vishwanath Anand and his thoughtful moves, we have a World Champion in our midst. Anand not only outplayed Topalov, but also out-prepared and outclassed him. He won the 12-game series 6.5-5.5 to retain the title he won against Kramnik in 2008.
“He is a worthy world champion — one of the best to ever play the game,” said English grandmaster Jonathan Speelman, a one-time second of Kasparov.
Having won in every format — tournament, knockout and match — the Indian maestro can take that pride of place!

Have Mercy

Kasab has been declared guilty and sentenced to be hanged to death. But the great nation that ours is, we will not let him go so easily. No way. We are a ‘democratic’ country and we have to prove our credentials to all and sundry – even if they are our nation’s avowed enemies and are waiting to destroy us. We shall let Kasab appeal to the High Court and then if he is still deemed guilty, he will be forced to appeal to the Supreme Court. And then, even if the Supreme Court finds him guilty, he will be under threat of hanging till he dies, be directed to appeal and file a mercy petition to the President of our country. Now, our President is too busy to deal with such trivial matters, you see, to deal with criminals and their death sentences and does not have the time to decide either way. This has resulted in 50 criminals waiting in death row who have filed their mercy petitions. Kasab will be 51st. So it sure will be a long time before Kasab can get to his promised virgins. And maybe he will be crying ‘Have mercy and hang me please’!

After all, ours is a big ‘democracy’ where the Government is ‘of the people, by the people and for the people’ yet, even if it is the will of the people to see Kasab hanged the Government will not do so. It is a democracy you see and everyone has the right to be heard. Strange but true.

Have mercy!

Amsterdam

We landed in Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport on a cold, rainy, windy afternoon.  Not a very welcome sign but we soon realised that the weather ...
