Genuine questions

A report in this morning’s Times of India states that 1,450 of 4,896 of our Members of Parliament and Legislative Assembly have declared criminal cases of rape, murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, dacoity and theft against them! And they are our elected representatives. These are the people who legislate for us. Do we have to wait for another two years when the next round of elections be held before we throw them out? Would they be replaced by people holding genuine respect for our Constitution? Would the citizens have worthwhile options?
If this is democracy,
Is democracy worth all the rapes, murders and corruption that are rampant in our society today in exchange for the freedom to outrage and be governed by animals who regress?

  1. Democracy's intrinsic values, in absolute terms definitely cannot be contested. But it also depends on in whose hands this powerful weapon is given. Not everyone may be qualified to handle forces beyond their understanding.

    1. As a matter of fact it is handled very well by these rogues to suit themselves as they fully understand the malleability of the system. Unfortunate.

  2. It is right now depending on whose hands the power to give the weapon rests. That is the sad part of our system.

  3. I remember reading in a recent post that democracy is just another 'crazy' system . That's what's happening sadly !

  4. No I think it is time we put an end to this. Most of these people get away due to the long time that the judiciary takes to settle these cases. If the implementation of our laws is strong, then such cases would not happen..

    1. I agree but there is no effort to reach that ideal state :)

  5. Burning questions with no answers. We have only these animals to pick from since they cut across party lines. And the longer a party stays in power, it is able to put up a fool-proof system of graft and other undesirable things in place. Look at the Centre. Isn't it proof enough?

  6. I'm temperamentally not a pessimist, but considering the way our leaders/representatives are 'elected', the knowledge of the system to common masses, their handicaps and how they are bullied or cajoled, I guess it will take us at least a century to attain a satisfactory level of democracy.

  7. Its strange that they manage to get into parliament so easily.

  8. I am forced to think that it is people who have nefarious objectives ,who join politics so that they can break all norms & laws with total impunity.

  9. who is going to replace them, if we throw them out? another bunch of criminals from another party, that's it. to be able to get a ticket from a constituency, that person needs to be somebody in that area. and by somebody, i mean someone who can manipulate the system, someone who can resort to violence in order to get things done. i don't think we will ever see a system that's meant for a civilized society.

    1. have you ever seen anyone with a clean image getting a ticket? when a party selects those candidates, they look for people who can win them a seat from that constituency, so that they get those numbers.

  10. In companies, Guiding people in the right way is really a tricky job which needs a lot of patience from the leaders. It Depends on how effective the leader is. It is hard to imagine when the leader himself/herself is corrupt. But we Indians are living with many corrupt leaders!! Strange. Its always in my mind as a conundrum. Nice post Magiceye:)

  11. I wish there was an answer to this! Even if we threw them out who do you think will replace them? And what is the guarantee that they wont commit another 1450 crimes.
    A thought provoking post indeed!

  12. Are you certain they'd be thrown out even if there was an election? I have a feeling most of them would be elected... and we would continue to be a pseudo democracy.
